Private IP’s affecting router settings (CGNAT)
Carrier Grade Network Address Translation or CGNAT is a new way Internet Service Providers are using to address the shortage of IP addresses worldwide. Your internet connection will no longer have its own public IP address, but a private one instead.
Any service or outside connection that is designed to reach you via your public IP address won’t work. As a result our DNS filter won’t communicate directly to your router.
These are some of the services that will also be affected because of this.
- Services or devices that rely on port forwarding
- Torrents inbound connections
- Internet-enabled devices that are reached by IP address (e.g. IP cameras/security cameras)
- Website hosting
- Multiplayer video games where you’re hosting a session/server
- Services that rely on Dynamic DNS (DDNS)
- VPN servers
- Remote access to home network storage, backups and remote desktop service
ISP’s using CGNAT Network
